Pareciera que entre la profesión de periodista y la de policía existen tenues diferencias. En ello, coincide un estudio de caso de la escuela de periodismo de la Universidad de Columbia en Estados Unidos, que nos recuerda que el periodismo de investigación y el trabajo de detective comparten una buena lista de similitudes.
Tareas como comprobar direcciones, descubrir nuevas líneas de investigación y reunir evidencias encuentran caminos similares, aunque en respecto de la tarea periodística pareciera no existir una sola manera de “dar al clavo”.
Con base en información provista por Reporteros sin Fronteras (RSF) en su informe anual, México es el país más peligroso para ejercer el periodismo, pues tan sólo en 2020 fueron asesinados ocho periodistas; ello, seguido de la India (4), Pakistán (4), Filipinas (3) y Honduras(3) todos considerados países de “paz”.
El periodismo como labor de alto riesgo en los países citados por RSF, requiere de investigación, de técnicas, de estrategias adecuadas y, algunas veces, ha de hacer uso del engaño e, incluso, de dispositivos ocultos para obtener información, sin perder la vida y sin hacer de lado las medidas de seguridad correspondientes para casos que implican reportajes peligrosos.
Sin embargo, esto último no es una tarea que todos los periodistas aprueben, pues implica decisiones editoriales y ética, en las que las estrategias y técnicas de información salen a relucir en las redacciones o nuevos proyectos de periodismo, ya sea como un tema complejo de estrategia engañosa e, incluso como el método perfecto para informar sobre una historia.
En contraste, el trabajo policiaco se ajusta a un conjunto de normatividades y de prácticas, al que un buen tiempo (exactamente 12 años), Clare Mackintosh le dedicó su vida en el departamento de investigación criminal de Inglaterra, además de ser comandante del orden público.
A veces las pasiones parecen seguir un mismo camino, pero con diferente cara, ése fue el caso de Clare, cuando decidió trabajar como periodista freelance y como consultora de redes sociales, llevando con ella las herramientas de su trabajo anterior.
Justamente las habilidades que adquirió al recopilar testimonios de acusados y de testigos, le ayudó a aprender muy bien cómo llevar el proceso de documentación de una historia, por lo que al poco tiempo escribió su primera novela: “Te dejé ir”.
¿Se imaginan el número de historias que debe tener un policía frente de sí en tan sólo un par de horas? Seguramente habrá algunas que se guarden en su corazón y otras que se lo destruyan o coincidan con algún episodio de su vida. Ese fue el caso de Mackintosh cuando armó su primer libro, pues la historia era una combinación de su trabajo con su vida personal.
Resulta que en alguna ocasión, siendo policía, le tocó atender el caso de un niño que murió arrollado por un conductor, de quien no podía comprender que se hubiese dado a la fuga sin pensar siquiera en auxiliarlo, después de causarle daño. El pequeño murió y Clare no imaginaba el dolor por el que podría estar pasando su mamá al saber que ya nunca más volvería a verlo.
Pasado el tiempo, nuestra querida policía, tuvo la mala suerte de perder a uno de sus hijos, siendo este tan sólo un bebé de tres semanas de nacido, quien enfermó de meningitis.
Creyó que nunca se sobre pondría al trauma y a la gran ausencia que Álex dejaba, aunque 14 años después escribió una serie de promesas que compartió en Twitter con otras mamás que pasaban por la misma situación.
Tomando la época que vivimos bajo el contexto de pandemia, estas promesas, pueden ayudar a sanar a muchos, haciéndoles saber que: “no siempre se quedarán despiertos llorando; que no siempre será lo primero que piensen todas las mañanas; que no siempre sentirán que ese nudo en la garganta es una roca imposible de mover; que esas olas de dolor que los derriban, algún día se volverán más pequeñas; que caminar no siempre se sentirá como si estuvieran arrastrando las piernas; que podrán decir su nombre sin llorar; que compartirán su recuerdo; que se sentirán tristes, pero no rotos”.
Respecto del duelo o la pérdida que deja la partida de un ser querido, Clare Mackintosh nos recuerda que no siempre nos dolerá como hoy.
