Recientemente se estrenó la segunda temporada de Umbrella Acaemy, una serie de superhéroes basada en el cómic del mismo nombre que el cantante Gerard Way de My Chemical Romance creó con las ilustraciones de Gabriel Ba.

Y es que, de un tiempo para acá, se han popularizado las ideas de los superhéroes con debilidades y dificultades emocionales, les vemos dudar y verse humanamente vulnerables. El conflicto emocional nubla su juicio a menudo y eso da la impresión de cercanía con nuestra pura y llana ausencia de súper poderes, sin supermanes de código moral intachable, lo de hoy es sentir que hasta lo superhéroes se equivocan y son tan fallidos como cualquiera. Umbrella Academy no es la excepción.
Lo que acá me ha resultado tan enigmático, es la relación de estos hermanos y hermanas con la figura de su padre y su modelo de crianza. Reginald Hargreeves, el padre adoptivo, es una figura severa que pone mucha presión sobre sus hijos e hijas para alcanzar la excelencia: es metódico y calculador, sin una pizca de compasión ni ternura, es más profesor que padre pero la ley, sus abundantes recursos materiales y económicos le permitieron comprar (es decir, adoptar) a tan singulares lactantes para moldearles a su antojo.
Por supuesto que el patriarca no se involucró con los cuidados básicos, se relacionó con esto nenes y nenas como una figura de autoridad hasta que tuvieron la edad suficiente para someterse a sus entrenamientos. Son su propiedad y él, Reginald Hargreeves, es el objeto de sus traumas, aunque hay tres instancias más que quedan en las sombras.
En el prólogo del primer episodio vemos a las madres biológicas quedar embarazadas de un momento a otro y dar a luz sin entender nada, y de ellas, las que gestaron y parieron no volvemos a saber nada. También vemos a siete uniformadas nanas conducir siete uniformadas carriolas entrando a la mansión Hargreeves, y jamás vemos a Reginald ocuparse de biberones, pañales, llantos ni control de esfínteres, eso no se dio de manera silvestre, es fruto del trabajo anónimo de estas mujeres que no cuentan.
Y por último la figura de Mamá, una señora robot (obediente y sin deseos propios) que hace funciones de contensión, consolación y ternura con los niños y niñas que componen esta familia, brindando las atenciones domésticas de las que dependemos cuando nos ocupamos de algunas cosas pero seguimos requiriendo respaldo, guía y apoyo emocional.
Reginald no puede parir, así que compra bebés de madres en situaciones extraordinarias; no le interesa ocuparse de los cuidados básicos así que contrata nanas desechables; no tiene recursos emocionales, entonces construye una robot señora con las habilidades de crianza, y bueno, aunque estas mujeres hacen el trabajo duro, los hijos son de Hargreeves, y si no están más dañados aún, es debido a estas presencias sin crédito alguno en su existencia.
